MY DRAG CAREER!
In January 2016, fresh out of Acting School, I landed my first big gig and was flown to Tenerife to join the fabulous cast of The Music Hall Tavern—a premier drag queen ensemble dinner show, and in my opinion, the top "What to do in the Canary Islands" experience. I was immediately cast as the lead vocalist, performing hits from ABBA, The Weather Girls, Sister Act, and more! My solo numbers brought a high-energy, singalong atmosphere to complement the many comedy lip-sync acts throughout the show. I was fortunate enough to perform on all four Canary Islands: Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura. It was here that I honed my craft in drag, cabaret, makeup, and live singing comedy entertainment!
Since landing in London at the very end of 2016, I’ve been performing my own solo cabaret act in bars, pubs, clubs across the country with a focus towards London and Brighton. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to perform at wonderful LGBTQ+ cabaret venues and bars such as The Two Brewers in Clapham, Halfway To Heaven in Charing Cross, Admiral Duncan in Soho, VIA in Manchester and many more. Performing in line-ups with the biggest and most popular British drag queens on the circuit such as Karla Bear, Miss Penny, Shania Pain, Lola Lasagne, Davina Sparkle, Lady Diamond and many more! From smaller pub settings to big nightclub setting, I’ve performed on every type of stage.
Outside of the drag circuit and gay bars, I’ve had the pleasure of being booked for a number of private events such as weddings, hen parties, birthdays and corporate functions. Bringing the magic of the Ava Cardo show to often a different audience outside of the usual LGBTQ+ Drag queen fanatics is such a pleasure. Some of my corporate clients over the years have included Superdrug, Ebay & Acumen Business Law.
My experience has allowed me to easily adapt my show to different settings, such as making it family-friendly by removing any adult humor when children are present. I’m also able to tailor my performance to corporate environments, where a more 'classy' act may be required.
I’ve also made my first west end appearance playing snow white in an adult pantomime which appeared at the Rialto Bar, Leicester Square in 2021 & 2022. A fabulous run filled with naughty jokes, amazing traditional pantomime costumes including performing alongside celebrity guests such as Andrea Jane ‘AJ’ Bunker from the popular reality show Love Island.
With my theatre background, I’ve been able to use my Ava character to return to acting. Not only have I performed on the West End, but I’ve also written, directed, and produced my own theatre show at the Brighton Fringe and Oslo Fringe in Norway. Titled Lionel & Cindy: The Greatest Love Story, I played the role of Cindy.
Since moving to Sitges in the Summer 2023 until present day, I’ve already made a massive impact on the scene here, already performing in three venues throughout the summer season and the low winter season. Bitch Bar and Boys Bar are where my shows are primarily. It is these late night shows where you can dance the night away to drag queen live vocals and laugh away to hilarious comedy audience interaction with myself. Bitch Bar (previously SOHO bar) is just located next door to the all mighty and popular Queenz Bar. Boys Bar (the new sitges bar in addition to the venue popular barcelona venue) is located in the heart of sitges’ nightlife opposite Parrots. Expect high energy live singing entertainment from me with handsome bartenders. See you there!
My most recent iconic performance was held on the Sitges Pride stage 2024. The drag queen line up on the wednesday evening consisted of top international drag queens including Lady Diamond, Ember, Karla Bear, Portia De Fosse and Mary Mac. Thousands of people gathered to watch the drag queens strut their fabulousness and sing well loved songs to the crowds. Sitges Pride is an annual beloved event and I look forward to hitting the stage in June 2025!
As well as performing currently in Sitges throughout the year, I do fly back to the UK for shows every few months for 2-3 weeks of touring the UK scene. In addition, I still make myself available for private events in both the UK, Sitges and Barcelona where I can cater my show to your needs.
